After you take in a lot of new information in chess, can your performance go down?

Well maybe your trying too hard. Yes there are tons of strategies but most of the time you have to adapt to your opponent. So don't play your moves like they are out of a book but just be aware that if a situation comes up to use a certain strategy what you should do. But always be aware because chess wont play like out of a book perfectly ever.
