I am the victim of aggravated assault and I wish to prosecute, almost three years later.?

The statute of limitations is seven years. Out of fear of being alone with my two kids I did not initially prosectute despite overwhelming eveidence and an 81k bail against him. He also assaulted me again after the case was dismissed without prejudice. My county prosecutor intially said she remembered the case and said she would look into it because it was a strong case. After a long wait I was told that eveidence was now too old and the wait too long. I think it has come down to budgets and case overload. Don't I as a victim and tax payer deserve justice as long as the limitations have not come close to running out? Again my case was rock solid plus there was second assualt as well as a burglary and what options would I have ? Thank You
