I am too old to start Irish Dancing?

I'm 16 and I've always wanted to Irish dance since I was little but I was caught up in other stuff. I'm just worried that I'm way too old to start. I mean don't most kids start around like 6 or something? I certainly have the time to dedicate myself to this and I realize that it's going to be a lot of work. I'm also really shy so I'm thinking that this might help my confidance and make me comfortable in front of people. The only cons I see in this is the cost and I'm probably going to start out being the oldest in the class of like first graders or something. So, I'm just wondering if anyone else has started this at my age and if it paid off for you. Thanks for your help, I'm probably just worrying over nothing...
